Merchandising

My merchandising philosophy is rooted in the belief that a golf shop should be an extension of the member experience, not just a profit-driven retail operation. Every decision that is made from product selection, pricing, presentation, and customization is guided by the goal of making members feel valued, understood, and connected to the culture of the club.

I believe effective merchandising begins with accessibility. By maintaining modest margins and prioritizing value over maximum profitability, the golf shop is positioned as a service to the membership rather than just as a revenue center. This approach builds trust and loyalty, allowing members to confidently shop knowing they are receiving fair pricing that often surpasses what they see at comparable clubs. When members view the shop as their preferred place to purchase, long-term engagement and consistent sales naturally follow.

Product selection should be driven by how members actually live. The golf shop should be a blend of traditional golf apparel and versatile lifestyle pieces that transition seamlessly from the course to everyday wear. This broader product mix gives the shop a distinct identity and makes it relevant beyond the round of golf, increasing both traffic and emotional connection.

Creativity is central to my merchandising approach. I look for inspiration within the club itself. Taking its culture, traditions, and shared experiences and translating those elements into custom merchandise. Whether it’s incorporating visual details from the property or references that resonate personally with the membership, these items tell the story of the club in a tangible way. Custom, culture-driven products not only differentiate the shop but also deepen members’ sense of belonging and pride.

Ultimately, I view merchandising as a relationship-building tool. When done thoughtfully, it reinforces the club’s identity, strengthens community, and enhances the overall member experience. My philosophy prioritizes service, creativity, and value, with the understanding that sustainable success in golf retail comes from aligning merchandise with the people it serves, not from chasing margins alone.
